Transniestrian Moldavian Republic is situated in south-west part of CIS.

Borders on Ukrain, Moldova.

The territory  is 4163 square kilometers.  The capital of Transniestrian Moldavian Republic is Tiraspol. The first-rate cities are also Bendery, Rybnitsa, Dubossary.

Administrative and territorial division is: 5 administrative regions and 2 cities of republican submission.

Founded in 1990.

The form of government is presidential republic. The President is elected for 5 years, is head of state and chief of executive power, forms the Cabinet, rules and coordinates  the activity of all government structures, represents the republic in the  international relations and is the Supreme Commander-in-Chief. The Supreme legislative body is the single-chamber Supreme Soviet, elected for 5 years. It is headed by the Chairman of Supreme Soviet. Judicial authority is performed by Constitutional Court, Supreme Court and arbitration tribunal.

Monetary unit is Transniestrian rouble.

Population is above 555 thousand (2005). The official languages are Russian, Moldavian, and Ukrainian. The prevalent religion is Christianity.

The natural resourses potential is represented with construction materials, underground mineral water, highly productive black earth (90% of the territory) together with high agroclimate potential  contributing to the intensive agrarian production. There  are no fossils of ore, primary fuel resources and forest resources of republican importance. In forming of macro-economical activities the important part belongs to manufacturing industry. 

The value of gross domestic product  varies from 250 to 400 million USD per year.

The industry includes 144  enterprises.
The Republic produces such export-oriented and well-known abroad kinds of goods as rolled steel, foundry equipment, electrical energy, cables, large electrical machinery, low-voltage gear, insulating materials, pumps, cement, furniture, textiles, footwear, ready-made garments, wine, brandy and other goods.

A lot  of  production kinds have got the certificates confirming correspondence their quality  to the world standarts.

The leading place in the sectored economy structure there take rerolling ferrous metallurgy, mechanical engineering and metal-working, light and food industry, power industry and manufacture of construction materials.

Trans-Dniester Moldavian Republic has economic ties with many countries. The characteristic feature of Transnistrian economy is the great extent of openness. The Republic exports its goods to 50 countries and imports from 40 countries.More than 90% of produced goods are exported.

External economic links are hampered with the  non-recognition de jure of the Republic. That's why the important role play the  direct contracts concluded between the enterprises of different regions. 

The requirements for fuel-energy resources are satisfied predominantly with importing. The value of foreign trade per year is about 1 milliard USD.

During the 90-s it was succeeded to enlarge the spectrum of enterprise participation in international economical exchange and penetrate into the new market segments.
Besides the traditional foreign commerce the joint undertaking, currency and credit operations, scientifical and technical information  exchange, manpower development, advertisement, leasing, tolling, rendering service on transporting, recreation, insurance, consulting, mediation are developing.

The basic role in international economical exchange plays the foreign commerce. During the period 1997- 2002 the annual foreign trade transaction per head varied within 1000 – 1500 USD.
